PRP (Platelet Rich Plasma)

PRP stands for Platelet Rich Plasma, a bio-regeneration therapy offering an array of healing and revitalising benefits to help reduce the signs of ageing. It aims to increase collagen and elastin production which can ultimately improve skin tone, texture and elasticity, reduce fine lines and wrinkles, reduce the appearance of enlarged pores, tighten the skin and soften stretch marks and scarring. Frequently Asked Questions

  • How does it work?

One of our Registered Nurses will extract samples of your own biology (blood) via an aseptic venepuncture. This sample contains a high concentration of your platelets, growth factors and bio-active proteins which play a vital role in tissue regeneration, repair, and healing. Such a treatment has been implemented for many years to treat tendon, ligament, and joint damage, to heal skin wounds and help regrow hair, muscles, and bone.

When PRP is injected into the skin, the platelets release growth factors stimulating cell proliferation, and act as ‘chemical controllers’ for tissue repair and healing. After a few minutes post injection, there is an immediate enlistment of stem cells to the treatment area, an increase of blood and nutrient supply and initiation of new blood vessels which are all vital components in skin regeneration. 3 weeks to months post treatment, such stem cells will help improve the production of collagen and elastin to improve skin quality, repair damaged skin and aesthetically, show a much healthier, plum, and more glowing look to the skin.

  • What areas can be treated?

    • Full face
    • Neck
    • Hands
    • Decolletage
    • Hair loss
  • How do I prepare for my treatment?

    2 weeks prior

    • Avoid corticosteroid medications as they impact on the healing process.

    7 days prior:

    • Cease aspirin as it can inhibit the release of growth factors. Platelets needs to be activated and aspirin inhibits this process.

    2 days prior:

    • Avoid Non-steroidal Anti-inflammatory medications (NSAIDS) such as Ibuprofen, Nurofen, Voltaren, Mobic and Celebrex and 10 days post treatment.

    • Minimise caffeine, coffee, and fatty foods along with no fish oil 2 days prior.

The week leading up to treatment:

    • It is important to be in the best overall health prior to your treatment. Specifically, avoiding alcohol, smoking, and recreational drugs.

    •  Increase your vitamin B and hydration levels, eat a diet rich in leafy green vegetables and exercise.
  • Is it painful?

This will depend on the treatment area. For example, if you are treating the under-eye region, as the skin is thinner and there isn’t any fat there, it may feel more painful. With other areas, you can expect some level of discomfort. Topical numbing agents and ice packs readily available for this treatment.

  • How long does it take?

    45 minutes per treatment area.

  • Downtime

Healing time varies from patient to patient. However, immediately after your treatment, you may appear red and swollen. This is normal and to be expected and can last for up to 24 hours.

  • Aftercare

    •  Avoid washing your face with cleansers, particularly with any active ingredients. However, if you need to wash your face do so 4 hours post treatment with warm water and soap.

    • Avoid makeup 12 hours post treatment.

    • If you require pain relief, take Paracetamol.
    • Avoid anti-inflammatory medications.
    • Avoid steroid (E.g. Prednisone) for 7 days post procedure.

    • Resume Aspirin 48 hours post treatment if this is your regular medication.

    • Consume minimal amounts of coffee, caffeine and alcohol 2 days post treatment as this may exacerbate bruising.

    • Avoid strenuous exercise including facial perspiration.

    •  If a significant amount of swelling occurs inform your injector, apply ice wrapped in a cloth to the area for 5-10 minutes 3x/daily. Note: Your injector will be in contact with you frequently to ensure swelling is reducing.
  • How often should I have it?

It is recommended to have 3 treatments to the one area 4-6 weeks apart. Once this is achieved, it is advised to upkeep treatments every 6 months or yearly. This is subject to change depending on the patient’s skin condition and age.

  • Longevity

PDO Threads

PDO threads are a non-surgical alternative for skin rejuvenation and strengthening. They are a biodegradable, polyester suture that enters the skin and is then broken down by the body after approximately six months. This process activates collagen synthesis, where more collagen is produced for a more firm, tight and rejuvenated effect. PDO threads are designed to reduce fine lines and wrinkles, while stimulating collagen production to improve skin tone and texture. Get in touch with our team to book.
